My dear Papa and Mama,

I write you both in the same letter because I had little time having much to write on this new year. I hope you are in a good state of health and that you will continue so in the following year the Good news I have received for the Americans gave me a great deal of pleasure by the loss of the english army commanded by Lord Cornwallis and I think that the English will loss all their hope of conquist in our Contry I hope My Brother William will come soon in this Contry as Mama told me in the Last letter and we shall be then four Americans because we are now three we expect some others I have joined my old aquantance Robert Montgomery we are bed fellows that gives me a great deal of pleasure. I write often to my Grand Father and I hope he is in a good state of health as me my Love to my Little sister Bety and to My Brother Louis I dont say to my Brother Will because I write to him.
