Paris 29th May 1782
Dear sir

Inclosed I send you the letters we talked about the last time I had the honor to see you—You will find them quite in the french stile you will please to make what altreations you may judge proper at the same time hope you will make them as strong as possible Being persuaded of your friendship for me doubt not you will use every Intrest to geet your good Father to Singe them whose Name is of more consequence to me in this unfortunate affair then all the recommendations in Paris besides And hope it will have that good effect as to save me & my Family from ruine I need not say more to you upon this head being truly senceble of your goodness of heart and friendship for me Which is so printed upon my mind & heart that time can not arace the same In respect to my having any connections with the English I declare upon my honor & the word of a Mason and an honest man I never have since the commencement of the War in 1776 I was published in the Barbados paper for sending Cannon & Powder to America by some Rascales of English who lived at Essequebo who sent the same to Barbados I am confident that there is not a person upon heart that can say that I have ever in one Instant done any thing to the predages of my country or the trade there of But have I hope done every thing in my power for the good of the same
