Dear Grand-papa,

I was very much delighted at receiving a letter from you to day, I was very much obliged for your kind advice. I told you in my last letter that I would write my dear mama and papa a letter, but as I have very little news I could only write you one. I was very much obliged to you, for the paper that you sent me for I had not a bit, I had to borrow some from Mrs. Bass. I was going to send for some to day. I have dated my letter as you desired me to date it. Mrs. Bass and all the favmily are very good to me indeed and I will try and do my best to them. I am very glad you are so much pleased with one of my letters that I wrote to you. I think that if I had a better pen I could write a little better. Tell mama that I have almost come up to the narrowing of my stocking and also tell her that I should be obliged to her if she would write me out the days of judgment as I now the tune and should like to learn the words for I think it is very pretty I heard her sing it. Mrs. Bass and all the family send their love to you and all our family to which I sincerely join. I remain your dutiful Grand-daughter
