To William Alexander (unpublished)
Philada Oct. 5. 1786
Dear Sir,

I received in its time your kind Letter of the 13th of July. A few Days before it came to hand, I receiv’d one from the Governor enclosing an Estimate of the Quantity and Value of the Types by Mr. Nicolson, with which I was by no means satisfy’d, knowing the Quantity must have been much greater than in that Estimate. I have been searching among my Papers, for Accounts or Memorandums relating to my Purchase of them, which was at different Times and of different Persons, but have not yet been able to find them: and begin to fear they are quite lost. I shall however search a little farther; and if I find nothing certain I will make an Account from the best of my Recollection and shall be much oblig’d by your kind Offers of Service in procuring me Payment. Mr. Williams is here and well. This Family join in best Wishes for your Health and Prosperity, with your affectionate humble Servant

B Franklin
