Richard Bache to William Temple Franklin (unpublished)
Philadelphia June 18th 1781
Dear Temple

About a fortnight ago I was favored with duplicate of what you wrote me the 26th February, via Boston, which duplicate you mention to be executed by a newly invented Machine, but you say not a word what kind of a Machine it is, I could wish you would give me some account of it, for you have excited my Curiosity much—I have not had an opportunity of seeing Mr. Bartram yet, he lives some distance from Town, but I am informed the Seeds you wrote for, cannot be procured ’till Autumn, this information I had from his Brother, I intend taking an early opportunity of waiting on him, & hope to succeed in accomplishing your commission; when your directions respecting them shall be particularly attended to—We have not had a line from my Father since the arrival of Paul Jones, we have however by repeated opportunities, had the pleasure of hearing he was well—The Alliance & her Convoy do not appear yet, we begin to fear for them—

The Shellala Captain Holmes, by whom I sent the Nuts & Apples last Winter there is every reason to fear has foundered, there were several passengers on board, that I had very great esteem for, Mr. John Bingit, was one of the number—I have wrote a few Lines of introduction to my Father, by a Mr. Ray, that goes in this Vessel; I knew his Family at Newyork, and believe him to be a good young man, I wish you to take notice of him— I am Dear Temple Your affectionate Friend & Kinsman
