From Benjamin Vaughan (unpublished)
London, April 21, 1785.
My dearest sir,

I beg leave to introduce to your acquaintance Mr. Long Junr. though I have not the honor to know him excepting by report. I know that he is, to the extreme, anxious to be favored with a sight of you, and with as much of your conversation as you will be so good as to favor him with. His father speaks highly of his temper, love for study, and love of liberty, and as all these good dispositions will find incentives with you, he wishes him to partake of your notice, as a thing which he would himself of all others particularly value.

When I speak of Mr. Long’s father I should not let it be unknown to you, that he is the author of the late history of Jamaica in 3 Vol. 4to., and a very amiable and respectable man in private life.

Dr. Price and Dr. Priestley have dined with me this day in good health, and as usual, have been conversing about you and your country. God speed you both. I am, my dearest sir, Your ever devoted affectionate and obliged

Benjn. Vaughan

Addressed: A son Excellence Monsieur / Monsieur Franklin, / Ministre Plenipotentiaire des / Etats Unis de l’Amerique, / &c &c &c, a Passy, / Pres Paris.
