A. Pyne to William Temple Franklin (unpublished)
Princeton March 23d 1786
Dear Sir

Mr Pyne has acquainted me with Mrs. Beches obliging proposal to accompany me in ye purchase of Kitchin Furniture, at present it would be very inconvenient for me to go to Philadelphia and I am certain Mrs. Bs. good judgment in the choice of articles both for utility & duration is quite sufficient & if she will procure what she thinks is absolutely necessary for immediate use, when I come to Strawberry Hill, I shall find time to particularize what may be wanted, it will then be but a short Trip to ye Capital & I will then submit my further necessities to her advice & direction; in the mean while I agree that iron Sauce Pans &c are best except one to melt Butter in. If you go to the Farm Sir I think as you have engaged a Negro Cook it will be well to secure that other Wench that is already in the House, for no white servant will chuse to be in subordinate Character under a Black. I had spoke to that Lady where I slept at Burlington to enquire for a Cook & one capable of all country business, she has been too good, for she has not only enquired but has absolutely hired one & sent me word the woman holds herself ready to come to us at a days notice this is distressing and I should be very glad if you will be so good to call on Miss Peak when in that Neighbourhood & name how we are situated so that this person may not continue in an error that she is engaged to us. There are two Vendues at Bristol on Monday & Wednesday next where Mr Pyne means to attend with the idea of purchasing sheep, he will also be on the spot to settle with Col. Shreve on Tuesday & if the Waggon is done to put our things in, I will do every thing in my power to remove the latter end of next week. in the interim I hope you will take care that proper necessarys are convey’d to the House by that time.

Mr Pyne is abroad all this day to search for Horses and least he should not have time to write has deputed me his Amanuensis and desired me to assure you of his utmost dilligence be pleased to make my compliments acceptable to Mrs Beech & accept the same from Dear Sir your obliged

A: Pyne
