Benjamin Vaughan to Benjamin Franklin et al. (unpublished)
Js. Sq:, London, July 17, 1788.
Gentlemen,

By the Young Eagle, Capt Kerr, I send you two thermometers invented by Mr. Six of Canterbury, and by him presented to the Philosophical Society at Philadelphia, which has done him the honor to elect him one of its members. They must not be placed out of an upright position, when carried; and therefore must be conveyed out of the vessel by a trusty person. The magnet to be used with the thermometers is packed up in one of the tin cases, in which they are inclosed. Care must be taken to remove the paper at the back of the thermometers, gently, previous to the taking of them out. I have the honor to be with respect, Gentlemen, Your most obedient and sincere humble servant

Benjn. Vaughan

Dr Franklin—Rittenhouse Esq John Vaughan Esq
Endorsed: Letter from Mr. Benj. Vaughan Read Oct 3d. 1788 with two Thermom from Mr. Six O.M.
