From Josiah Harmar (unpublished)
Fort Pitt March 19th. 1787
Sir

I have the honor to Enclose to your Excellency a return of the Pennsylvania Troops in the Service of the United States, dated the 1st. inst. and to inform you that two companies of Infantry (Captain Finney and Capt. Ziegler) are posted at the rapids of the Ohio, and the other Infantry Company (Capt. McCurdy) at Muskingum—The Artillery Company (Captain Ferguson) is at Fort Mc. Intosh and at Fort Pitt.

Be pleased to receive the Enclosed interpretation of several Words in the Delaware and Shawanee languages. It is not so complete as I could have wished. I have written to the Missionary of the Moravian Indians, who is now at Cayahoga, from whom I expect a printed Vocabulary of these two Languages; When received, it shall be transmitted.

Permit me to return your Excellency my most sincere acknowledgements for your friendship and politeness to me whilst in Europe.

Your Civilities shall ever be held in most grateful remembrance. I have the honor to be with the highest esteem and respect Your Excellency’s most humble and obedient Servant.

Jos. Harmar
