Sir

The just and glorious fame which is allowed to you throu all our continent by persons who make it their Duty to Distinguish Merit and to recommend it, gave me the hopes of finding in you some relief to my Misfortunes. I am a young french Nobleman who after having being for a Long While plaid about by fortune, has at last resolved to put an end to his painful situation. Being born with pretention, to a pretty fortune, and being besides an eldest son my parents thought proper to make me travell without giving me any charge or employ, which would have agreed both with my birth and way of thinking. They then Sent me over to the west indies to hispaniola, where I had an uncle very rich; being myself very much in that contry, being not used to Live with Negroes he sent me to see that famous part of the World which under your prudent and most admirable direction, is so Near triumphing of his most cruels ennemies. That is your galry where you are so justly adored and where the most sincere friendship and esteem for you is already consecrated to posterity. There i remained two whole years almost till the beginning of their happy troubles. During which time i applied myself closely to Learn English of which i was very fond. So that, I may speak it, read it, and write it tolerably well. After that, having Left my uncle, and Support, by Death, i was obliged to go back to the West indies, and from there to return into my contry, where for my misfortune and against the stronguest inclination, i am an useless creature not being able to guet any employ or charge of any Kind; and to shew you, sir, how desirous i am of shewing the superiority of my bein, by applying myself to something, and My greatest friendship for your dear Contrymen, in being serviceable to you or to them, for all the Kindnesses and good treatmens they bestowed upon me during my stay in Philadelphia where i made my residence and where i had for guardian Mr Samuel Mifflin, i have travelled almost throu all the continent; having some Knowledge of that country, being besides very desirous of being useful to those Worthy people; i should be very glad Sir, if my services could be any how agreable to you, that would be the happiest moment of my Life. I can speak three different Languages, french, Latin, and english. And possess beside, all the education suiting a gentleman and a nobleman. Knowing a Little of music vocal and instrumental a Little of mathematics, of design &ca.

I beg of you sir to honour me with your answer as soon as possible, being resolved to go immediately to London, if hunhapely my services are no how agreable to you.

I remain with the most sincere sentiments Your most obedient and humble servant

De la blancherie
