From Granville Sharp (unpublished)
May 16, 1778
Dear Sir

The Bearer, Mr. Stockton was recommended to me, when he first came to England, in a very particular manner, by a worthy friend of mine, Dr. Rush (with whom you are probably, well acquainted) and his prudent conduct and good behaviour, during his residence here, have been such as must do credit to any recommendation: Give me leave, therefore, Dear Sir, to request your attention and favour towards this young Gentleman, as I believe that he is a sincere friend to the general Rights of Mankind, and that his amiable disposition and good qualities also in other respects will engage your esteem and friendship, if you are pleased to favour him with your acquaintance, which will very much oblige Dear Sir Your friend, and most humble Servant
