A Coppy of a Leter I wrote from warwick to Mr Vernon at Newport
Sir

I have receivd by the hand of Colle ward a Hundred and fifty five Dolars on the Bill you Accepted from Dr Franklin. I was Informed before I came from Boston there was a New Regulation concerning the Exchange from France,

Cousen Jonathan says it ought to be & he Pays since he came here as he has stated it in the bill.

but that it did not take Place till since that Bill was drawn as my Brother mention’d in his Leter to me it was a 160 Dolars which I am certain he would not have done had not your Son Receivd that Sum from him I Look upon it as a Debt of Honour, & from the character I had Receivd of the Gentleman on whom it was drawn I Expected to be Honourable Paid.

You Sir are Sensible if you had occasion to have Sent a Bill to France the Purchace would have cost you Six Pr Ct above Par. When you consider these circumstances I am convinced you will think it but Reasonable to make up the full Sum, which if you should Determine to do you may have an opportunity by madam Greene, who is now in Newport whose Return I shall wait hear for Your Humble Servant
