From the Chevalier Thomas O’Gorman (unpublished)
Paris 11th. april 1782.
Sir

This letter will be handed to your Excllency by Doctor O’Connor, an Irish gentleman, for whom your friend Doctor Mac Mahon and I have Conceived the highest esteem, chiefly founded on his merit and good Conduct. He has gone through a regular Course of the Study of Phisick and Surgery for many years in the university of Paris, and has been these nine years past in the most active practice of both, in France and the West-Indies, as well in the army and navy, as in the military hospitals of Martinica and Dominica. He returned lately to Europe for the benefit of his health, and, having recovered it pretty well, he is now willing to offer his Service, under your excellency’s patronage, to the united States of America, either in the Continental army or in their hospitals. Doctor Mac Mahon, who is well acquainted with his abilities for many years past, will give, on enquiry, such a character of him as shall please you; he has, in the mean time, his attestations in due form

I know, Sir, that when I take the liberty of recommending Doctor O’Connor to your Excellency’s protection his own merit will give him the best title to it.

I have the honour to be with great Deference Sir your excellency’s Most humble and most obedient Servant

Le Chevr. O’Gorman

His Excellency Doctor Franklin at Passy
