Often carried letters to England for Franklin (1750s). With Franklin and others, established a linen factory in Philadelphia (1764). Manager and treasurer (1769-80) of the Sea Captains Club, a relief organization for sea captains and their families. Served on a committee to survey the Delaware River for the Pennsylvania Committee of Safety (1775).
Quaker. Married Mary Richardson of Wilmington; disowned for marrying contrary to discipline (1772). Name also spelled “Reeves.”
