Probably Benjamin Bannerman of Norfolk County, Virginia; possibly the son or other close relation of Dr. Mark and Katherine (Barker) Bannerman of Lancaster County, Virginia. Married Margaret Slreep (1765). Acquainted with Governor William Franklin of New Jersey. Served in Virginia militia (1777). Traveled to England to settle his brother’s estate. Signed Loyalist petition in England (1778). Detained at Havre de Grace; appealed to Franklin to help him recover confiscated clothing and bonds (1779). Planned to return to Virginia via Paris and Nantes.
