Commissioned by Patrick Henry, to deliver important documents from Henry and Congress, including the ratification of the treaty with France, to Franklin and the American Commissioners (1778). He was captured by the British and sent by them to Lisbon.

Anderson eventually returned to Virginia where he became a plantation owner and tavern keeper after the American Revolution.
