Studied law before going into military service. Took part in fifteen campaigns. Named a chevalier de St.-Michel de Bavière et du Mérite militaire, a commis du trésor royal, and premier commis dans les armées du roi en Allemagne.
After retiring from military service, established himself as a writing teacher. Founded a writing academy in Brussels (1757).
Author of Les trois éléments qui font l’alliance du souverain avec les lois (1777), and of Précis du militaire en général (1777). Sent Franklin a copy of his L’oeil du Maitre, ou essai sur le Ministère (1778).
Born in Chartres. Married to Marie-Anne Motheur; sixteen children.
