Officer of dragoons and, later, of infantry. Traveled extensively in Greece and Turkey (1776-79). Member of the Académie des inscriptions (1779). Author of Voyage pittoresque de la Grèce (Paris, 1782-1824). Ambassador to Constantinople (1784-92). Returned to France (1802). Privy councillor and peer of France (1815).
Son of Marie-Gabriel-Florent-Christophe and Marie-Françoise (Lallemand de Betz) de Choiseul, comte and comtesse de Choiseul- Beaupré. Married Adélaïde-Marie-Louise de Gouffier. Married princesse Hélène de Bauffremont.
