Lafreté, Jean-Jacques de (b. 1728)

French businessman, postal administrator, and friend of Franklin.

Named Receiver General of Finance at Lorraine and Barrois (1781). Shareholder in the caisse d’escompte.

Had commercial ties with the firm Basmarein & Raimbaux, and invested in one of their voyages to the United States. Also involved in a similar venture of the firm, Veuve Lalanne & Fils.

One of Franklin’s letters to Madame de Lafreté was included in the Bagatelles.
