Soldier of fortune.

Served in Europe for twelve years. Captain in the Dutch army. Embarked for America, was captured by the British, and escaped to France.

Beaumarchais suspected him for some reason and delayed his second departure for America.

Sailed to America with Lafayette (1777). Captain in the American army (1777). Lieutenant colonel in Pulaski’s legion (1778).

Born in Neufchâtel. Alternate form of the name: Lebrun de Bedaux.
