Kames, Agatha Drummond (1711-1795)

Wife of the Scottish judge, Henry Home, Lord Kames (m. 1741).

Although Franklin frequently referred to her as Lady Kames, the wife of a Scottish law lord was not officially allowed to use her husband’s title until 1906. She technically remained “Mrs. Home” until 1766, when she inherited the family estate of Blair-Drummond and resumed her maiden name. She was thereafter known as “Mrs. Drummond.”
