Towers, Robert (d. c. 1779)

Charter member of the Union Library Company. Manager of lottery to raise funds for completion of St. Paul’s Church (1761). City assessor (1767-69). With James Leacock, started a glass factory on what is now Richmond Street, Philadelphia (1772). The venture was not a success, and the property was soon sold. Served as Pennsylvania commissary of stores during the Revolutionary War.
