Barnard, Tristram

Whaling captain from Nantucket.

Employed in the English whaling industry for four years (c. 1774-78). Hoped to return to America.

Recommended to the American commissioners by John Channing and Griffith Williams for his services to American prisoners. Provided the commissioners with intelligence. Suggested an attack on English whaling ships.

Commanded, or had an interest in the Charming Nancy, the Massachusetts, and the Venus (1779-82). Commissioned to command the brigantine Queen of Spain (February 11, 1782).
