Lawyer at the Parliament of Paris (1752). Intendant des finances of the comte d’Artois.

Friend of Franklin and Voltaire. Collaborated with Voltaire, Morellet, La Condamine, and Saint Foix on the Receuil des facéties parisiennes pour les six premiers mois de l’an 1760. Author of various legal writings and of the well-known Mémoire pour les Calas (1762).

Lawyer for the defense in the much publicized Queyssat affair (1775-79).

Born in Carentan, Manche.
