Barclay, David, Jr. (1729-1809)

London merchant.

With brother John, a founder of what became Barclay’s Bank. Involved in the affairs of the Pennsylvania Hospital.

With John Fothergill, Barclay participated in the secret informal negotiations that took place in the winter of 1774-75 between Franklin and several British officials in an attempt to avoid war.

Grandson of Quaker apologist Robert Barclay.
