Possibly Charles French (d. 1784), an Irishman who served as mayor of Galway (1773-74) and sheriff of County Galway (1774) and was made a baronet in 1779, or his son Sir Thomas French (c. 1765-1814), a banker and advocate of Irish Catholic rights.
