Halkett, Sir Peter (c. 1695-1755)

British army officer.

M.P. for Dunfermline (1734-41). Lieutenant-colonel of 44th regiment (1745); captured by Jacobites and paroled. Colonel of 44th regiment (1751). Killed at Battle of Monongahela, as was his son James, a lieutenant in his father’s regiment.

Son of Peter Wedderburn and Janet Halkett of Fifeshire; husband and children assumed the name Halkett. Married Amelia Stuart; three sons. Succeeded to baronetcy (1746).
