Conseiller (1752), lieutenant particulier (1754), and Criminal Lieutenant (1759) to the Châtelet at Paris. Named maître des requêtes (1765). Appointed Lieutenant of Police at Paris (1774, 1776-85). Named conseiller d’état (1775).

Was the bibliothécaire du Roi (1783-90). Published a detailed account of the various works accomplished by the Parisian police while under his command: Détail sur quelques établissements de la ville de Paris (1780).
