Watson, Elkanah, Jr. (1758-1842)

Merchant.

Apprenticed to a Rhode Island merchant who sent him to France with dispatches and money for Franklin (1779). Became a partner in a Nantes mercantile business with a Monsieur Cossoul.

Following the war, he returned to America and became famous as an advocate of canal building.

Born in Plymouth, Massachusetts. Married in 1789 to Rachel Smith; five children.
