Lacepède, Bernard-Germain-Etienne de La Ville sur Illon, comte de (1756-1825)

Naturalist, composer, and politician.

Encouraged in his studies by both Glück and Buffon.

Garde et sous-démonstrateur du cabinet du roi. Sent Franklin some memoirs on electricity (1777), which were most likely included in his Essai sur l’électricité naturelle et artificielle (1781).

Also sent Franklin a copy of the first volume of his Physique générale et particulière (1782). Author of various works on music and natural history, and composed several operas and a requiem mass.

Politically active during the French Revolution and under the Empire.

Born in Agen, France.
