Traveled to Philadelphia with Franklin (1775) and resided with the Franklins while attending school there. Practiced law in Providence, Rhode Island. Attorney general of Rhode Island (1794-97). United States Senator (1797-1801).
Son of William and Catherine (Ray) Greene of Warwick, Rhode Island. Educated at the Academy of Philadelphia and Yale (B.A. 1784). Married Mary Magdalen Flagg (1794); five children.
