Tyler, John Steele (d. 1813)

Massachusetts army officer.

Major in the Continental Army; resigned (1779). Served as a lieutenant-colonel in the Massachusetts Penobscot campaign (1779).

Traveled to France and London with John Trumbull (1780) and later lodged with him in London. A warrant for Tyler’s arrest, on suspicion of treason, was issued in November 1780; Tyler was forewarned and escaped.
