Wright, Susanna (1697-1784)

Raised silkworms and flax. Experimented in medicine and the natural sciences. Engaged in painting and writing poetry, and read widely. For her accomplishments and for her vast store of practical wisdom, Wright achieved a measure of fame.

Born in England. Sister of Franklin correspondent James Wright. Emigrated with her family to Pennsylvania (1714). Eventually settled on the eastern bank of the Susquehanna.
