Brother of Nicolas Luton Durival, lieutenant general of the Nancy police and historian. Premier secrétaire des affaires étrangères et de la guerre (1766-71). Chef du bureau des fonds des affaires étrangères (1770-85). Director of Finance for the department of Foreign Affairs (1785).

Author of Détails Militaires (1758) and of Essai sur l’Infanterie française (1760).
