Kermorvan, Gilles-Jean Barazer, chevalier de (1740-1817)

Officer in the American Army.

Lieutenant in the regiment of Brie (1758-63). Served under the command of Pulaski with the Ottomans in their war against the Russians (1772-75). Breveted colonel of engineers.

Recommended to Franklin by Barbeu- Dubourg (1776). One of the first French volunteers in America (1776). Washington supplied him with a letter of introduction to Congress which commissioned him an engineer and a lieutenant colonel. Served with the regiment of riflemen.

Returned to France (1778 or 1779). Breveted captain of infantry in the French army.

Born in Châtelaudren, Côtes-du-Nord.
