French naval officer. Named garde-marine (1766) and enseigne (1773) in the royal navy. Served in Martinique on the Etourdie (1774- 1775). Returned to France on the Oiseau (April 1776). Served on the Licorne (1776), the Solitaire, and the Artésien (1778-1781). Commissioned lieutenant de vaisseau (March 1779). Distinguished himself at the siege of Savannah (1779). Named an honorary member of the Society of Cincinnati. Chevalier de St.- Louis (1781). Served as the deputy from Guadeloupe to the States-General (1789).
