Northampton County, Pennsylvania militia officer.

Immigrated to Pennsylvania from Germany (1749) and settled in Heidelberg Township. Lieutenant (1757), then colonel (1775), in Pennsylvania militia. Built and manned a line of forts on the Northampton frontier, under Franklin’s supervision, in Seven Years’ War. Justice of the peace (1761). Supported the Revolution. Sought but failed to obtain a commission in the Continental Army.
