Muirson, Heathcote (c. 1755-1781)

American sailor and soldier.

Defied Loyalist family by enlisting in patriot service. Captured by British and committed to Forton Prison (July 1778); escaped. Received 240 l.t. from American commissioners (February 1779). Returned to America by 1780. Died of wounds received while acting as a guide to an expedition against a British refugee fort at Lloyd’s Neck, L.I. (July 1781).

Son of Dr. George and Anna (Smith) Muirson of Suffolk County, Long Island. Educated at Yale (B.A. 1776). Never married.
