Philadelphia merchant and assemblyman.
Immigrated to Pennsylvania c. 1736-37 with his parents and siblings. Went into business with his father, a Philadelphia merchant and civic leader. Served in Pennsylvania Assembly (1764). Political opponent of Franklin; joined protest against Franklin’s appointment as colonial agent. Charged with violating nonimportation agreement (1769).
Born in England. Son of Robert and Philotesia (Owen) Strettell. Married; three children.
