Joined the continental brig Lexington in Bourdeaux as a midshipman (1777). Lambert Wickes placed him in charge of the prize Jason, which was brought in to Morlaix to be sold. Rejoined the Lexington, was captured on the voyage to America. Held at Mill Prison.
After his escape, he was in Calais, in need of funds. Wrote Franklin to request his share of the money obtained from the sale of the Jason.
