Bartram, John (1699-1777)

Farmer and botanist. Friend and correspondent of Peter Collinson.

Performed experiments in hybridization in his well-known botanical garden at Kingsessing, near Philadelphia. Appointed Botanist to the King (1765).

Born in Marple, Pennsylvania. Married in 1723 to Mary Morris; two sons. Married in 1729 to Ann Mendenhall; five sons, four daughters.
