Pennsylvania militia officer and legislator.
Participated in the Braddock expedition (1755). Lieutenant in Pennsylvania militia (1758); brigadier general (1776). Represented York County in the Pennsylvania Assembly (1771-76). Member of the Supreme Executive Council (1781-84); vice-president of the Council (1782-84). Member of Pennsylvania Assembly (1784) and Senate (1795-99). Republican in the 1780s; later became a Federalist.
Son of Thomas and Susanna (Howard) Ewing of Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Married Patience Wright.
