Soumain, Samuel (1718-c. 1765)

Philadelphia silversmith.

Worked as a silversmith in Annapolis (1740-54) and Philadelphia (1754-65). Neighbor of Franklin on Market Street. Daniel Fisher characterized Soumain as “a very inquisitive person, craving a knowledge of other People’s affairs, though noways concerning himself.”

Married Susanna Minskie (1742); father of Elizabeth Soumaine Empson. Name also spelled “Soumien” and “Soumaine.”
