Allamand, Jean-Nicolas-Sébastien (1713-1787)

Professor of philosophy and natural history at the University of Leyden. Became rector of the university (1759). Formed the cabinet d’histoire naturelle de Leyde. Fellow of the Royal Society. He shared Franklin’s interest in electrical experiments. Published a twenty-four volume, annotated edition of the works of Buffon (1766-1770).

Brother of François-Louis Allamand.
