Immigrated to New Brunswick, New Jersey. Member and sometime Speaker of New Jersey Council (1745-75). Member of town council (1747). Moved to Morristown (c. 1765).

Son of Richard Kemble, a merchant of Smyrna, Turkey, and his Greek wife née Mavrocordato. Married (1) Gertrude Bayard; seven children. Married (2) Elizabeth Taite; three children. His daughter Margaret married Thomas Gage.
