Amateur astronomer; built an observatory at his estate on the outskirts of London. Published articles on political economy, astronomical instruments, and the determination of latitude and longitude.
Son of F. W., Graf von Brühl zu Martinskirchen; nephew of Saxon prime minister Heinrich von Brühl. Educated at Leipzig. Married (1) Alicia Maria, Countess of Egremont (1767); two children. Married (2) Maria Chowne (1796). The German form of his name was “Hans Moritz, Graf von Brühl.”
