Graduated from the military school at Mézières. Commissioned captain of engineers (1775).
One of four French officers sent to the United States in 1777. Breveted major before his departure, he went to America as a lieutenant colonel in the American corps of engineers. Promoted to colonel (November 1777), and was in charge of fortifying the Hudson Highlands. Died in service.
