Army officer.

Ensign (1761), then lieutenant (1770) in the Royal American (60th) Regiment. Served on Pennsylvania frontier under Col. Henry Bouquet. Commander at Fort LeBoeuf (1762-63); forced to retire to Fort Pitt on the outbreak of Pontiac’s uprising. Ordered to South Carolina, where he commanded Fort Prince George and encouraged the Cherokees to retaliate against white squatters and poachers (1764-67).
