Marblehead merchant and army officer.
Apprenticed to a Marblehead merchant. Second lieutenant, 14th Continental Infantry (January 1776). Fought at Trenton and Princeton, became aide-de-camp to General Charles Lee, and was with him at the battle of Monmouth. Retired from army after Lee’s suspension (1778) and established himself as a merchant at Marblehead. Lieutenant-colonel, Marblehead militia (1790). Elected to the Massachusetts General Court (1792).
