Hesselius, Gustavus (1682-1755)

Painter and craftsman.

Well known for portraiture and paintings on religious themes, Hesselius also constructed the first organ in America.

Cousin of the theologian Emanuel Swedenborg. Born in Folkarna, Dalarne, Sweden. Went to Philadelphia (1711). Married Lydia —. Their four children, included Franklin correspondent John Hesselius.
